26th-A the Scandal of the Love of God

The Scandal of God's Love

http://www.sodahead.com/living/matthew-2128-32the-parable-of-the-two-sons/question-1790423/

I. Provocative, 'scandalous' statements and actions of Jesus.
  • “The tax collectors and the prostitutes are ahead of you in the kingdom of God.”

  • Vineyard Workers who worked late were given the same wage as that who worked earlier.
  • It is easier for the camel to enter the eye of the needle than for you to enter the Kingdom
  • Prodigal Son over the elder son.
II. God's love is scandlously good news to sinners.
  • Jesus himself seems to be a 'scandal' for some. In letter of Paul to Eph: Jesus, who was God, deed not deem equality with God... rather he emptied hiself and took the form of a slave being born in the likeness of man.
  • The king of kings has to suffer and die... worst is a death on a cross?
  • God's love shakes us to the nerve. the scandal is that he is willing to do that for the sake of sinners, those who are undeserving of his love.
III. Lessons from the Readings for the day
  • Gospel: 2 sons  Refer to the Jews who are first called to the vineyard, and the Gentiles who at first did not believe but repented in the end.
  • the ideal 3rd unmentioned Son, who said yes and followed. e.g, Mary and Jesus.
  • the 3rd is, though not impossible difficult to follow. we are all sinners. we have mastered saying NO to God.
  • the good news is that God does not condemn sinners.  He is not discouraged by our 'NO's of life; God always longs for our conversion- a change of answer to His call, from our NOs turning to Yes! - our obedience to His will.
  • God's love shakes us intensely that it brings down the walls of sin to nothing.
  • the same love shook the hearts of  the hardened sinner and they became saints.
  • it will also shake us up that it can also make our NOs into Yes!

kapwa ko, Sagot ko - 23rd-A

Kapwa ko, Sagot ko

http://stevendkurtz.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/sermon-wordle-2008-09-07.png

I. 1st Reading - Ez. 33:7-9

  • we are our brothers' keeper.
  • we are responsible to our neighbor
  • not just responsible to them but we are accountable for them.
    • Pananagutan Song
II. 2nd Reading Rom. 13:8-10
  • because loving our neighbor is God's greatest commandment.
  • owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled te law.
  • thus for Christ as taught by st.paul love for our neighbors is the norm!- in every relationship; in all dealings with everyone.
  • including enemies and the ones which we consider lost souls.
III. Gospel- Mt. 18:15-20
  • v14- Your Father in Heaven doesnt want even one of these little one to Perish.
  • parables of the lost sheep, coin  and son teach us that to love is to seek. not to shun, to open not to close, to desire to posses, not to lose.
  • pope francis - “What God wants is that we be welcoming, that we forgive and love each other so as to become more and more like Him, who is communion and love...“It's the devil who separates, destroys relationships, sows prejudices,” the Pope affirmed that “the holiness of the Church” is “to recognize the image of God in one another.”

  • the goal is to bring back to life those who have been made choices of death
  • thus part of loving is to correct our erring brothers.
  • our Gospel today tells us to exert extra effort to attend to our enemies.
  • ther are three steps stipulated by Jesus:
    • talk personally to ur brother, man to man, face to face.
      • -- "Gossip can also kill, because it kills the reputation of the person! It is so terrible to gossip! At first it may seem like a nice thing, even amusing, like enjoying a candy. But in the end, it fills the heart with bitterness, and even poisons us." (Angelus, Feb. 16, 2014).
    • seek the help of some of your neighbors
    • go to the community and consider them publicans and tax collectors, who by the way are one of the closest friends of Jesus.
  • again the goal is to bring our brothers back to Jesus
  • the motivation is Love.
IV. Dawn vs. Darkness

The rabbi asked his students: "How can we determine the hour of dawn, when the night ends and the day begins?"
One of the rabbi's students suggested: "When from a distance you can distinguish between a dog and a sheep?"
"No," was the answer of the rabbi.
"It is when one can distinguish between a fig tree and a grapevine?" asked a second student.
"No," the rabbi said.
"Please tell us the answer then," said the students.
"It is then," said the wise teacher, "when you can look into the face of another human being and you have enough light in you to recognize your brother or your sister. Until then it is night, and darkness is still with us."1b

Divine Paradox - 22-A

Jer 20:7-9
Rom 12:1-2
Mt 16:21-27
I. God of Paradox
  • Abraham- assured of  posterity as numerous as the stars in the sky... and then asked to sacrifice His only Son Isaac, who would make this promise a reality.
  • First Reading: Jeremiah's callGo whatever be the mission I am entrusting to you, and you will speak of whatever I command you to say.” The prophet gets scared; he is young; he does not know how to speak but the Lord assures him: “Do not be afraid…for I will be with you to protect you…They will fight against you but shall not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue you” (Jer 1:7-8, 19).and yet we hear Jeremiah seem to sound alone, forsaken or neglected by the Lord being subjected into redicule and rejection of Israelites.

  • The paradox in the life and teachings of Jesus:
    • the beatitudes
    • The one who seeks to be great in the kingdom must be your servant.
    • the first will be the last and the last will be the first.
    • I have come that they may have life, life in all its fullness” (Jn 10, 10).-To achieve the life it is necessary to lose it.
    • For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
      - 1cor. 1:18
    • to conquer death, Jesus was subjected to it.
II. THE PARADOX OF DISCIPLESHIP.
  • ano ba talaga kuya?

    • Gospel (Peter's delimma) Messiah, son of the Living God, the redeemer- to go to Jerusalem to suffer and die.? never shall it happen to you said peter.
    • Simon Peter: a living stone of the Church having received revelation from the Father, accepted the plan of salvation professed his faith to the Son of the living God- Stumbling block because he let himself be guided by human reasoning.
      • reality is that our ways of God is far different from God's ways.
      • Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.--  Rom. 12:2
    • Whose disciples are we?
      • If we seek honor, power, comfort and leisure , acknowledgement, self interest, gratification, then we are World's disciples
      • Christ's disciples seeks deny oneself, and cross and following Jesuss: gives up personal gains, other-centered, seeks not suffering but love- the ultimate giving of self and taking part God's project on beting one's life on love.
    • our future is also a paradox
      • whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
    • thus we have a choice:
      • glory on earth and eternal suffering in hell.
      • cross on earth and eternal glory in heaven.

    Ang Tigasin- 21st-A

    Is. 22:15.19-23
    Rom 11:33-36
    Mt.16:13-20

    I
    . the Rock

     si Simon bago maging tigasin.

    • Mt.14- walking on the water
    • Mt. 26- denial of Peter
    • Mt. 16- prediction of Christ' death
Si Jesus ang tunay na Bato.
    • This solid, immovable “rock”, is always and only Christ.“Wara nin ibang pundasyon na ikakabutang kundi an saro na ibinutang na, warang iba kundi si Jesu Cristo (1 Cor 3:11).
    • marani kamo saiya, buhay na gapo, isinikwal nin mga tawo alagad sa mata nin Dios pinili na mahalaga.  (1Pt. 2:4)
    •
    Si Simon naging Bato
    • Ika GAPO. asin sa gapong iyan papatindugon ko an sakong simbahan.
    • Peter as building stone:  the stone of which Jesus speaks, is the faith professed by Peter. This faith constitutes the foundation of the church, which keeps it united with Christ-rock, makes it indestructible and allows it to never be overwhelmed by the forces of evil. (tigasin)
    • gates of hell will not prevail: Nothing ever—ensures Jesus—can prevent the church to complete her work of salvation, provided that she is always closely united to him, the Son of the living God.
    • key- manager of the house. authority to give or deny access to the palace.(first reading)
    • loosing and binding: after that confession of faith, peter holds the key which opens the door of and gives access to salvation to those who confessed the same faith and exclude those whom refuse the faith.
    • All those who, like Peter and with Peter profess this faith, are inserted, as living stones, in the spiritual building designed by God.: "
      • kamo mismo, parehas kan mga gapo, magpatukdok kamo na maging espiritwal na harong na magiging banal na kapadian na madulot nin mag espiritwal na sacrificio na akong gayo nin Dios huli ki Jesu Cristo. "(1Pt. 2:4-6)
    II. Ang mga Bagong Tigasin
    • persecuted Christians in Iraq and Syria:
    • options: convert, leave, pay high tax, or be killed.
    • thousands were already mercilessly killed, beheaded, shoot... old as well as infants.
    • they are new martyrs of faith.
    • kami pinapatios nin gayo alagad dai na dudunot, nawawraan nin mabibirikan alagad dire nawaraan nin pakakadtuan, pinipersiger alagad dai pinapabayaan, binabadag alagad dai na raraot. danay asin minsan saen dinadars mi sa hawak an pagkagadan ni Jesus tanganing an buhay ni Jesus ikapahiling sa samong hawak. (2 Cor. 4:9)
    III. Peter as model
    • tigasin o matibay- di dahil sa kun ano an kaya ta himuon (magpahibi nin bayi, mag padalagan sin motor na makaskas, pira na kaya ta u uson na arak)
    • di dahil kun pira an igwa kita. (yaman, kapangyarihan impluwensya o nene)
